Lavender & Rosemary Wintering Service

Lavender & Rosemary Wintering ServiceWe can over winter your Lavender and Rosemary plants!

Key Benefits:

For Lavender
> See your lavenders grow into gorgeous mature plants with many flowers!
> Wow your friends and neighbours with the best lavender in Manitoba!
> Save your windowsill space for plants that are better suited as indoor herbs.
> Let us worry about keeping your lavender in the ideal conditions to promote flowering in spring.

For Rosemary
> Avoid the disappointment of rosemary drying out under low humidity/lower light conditions typically found indoors over winter.
> Keep your prize plants for many years and watch them grow into gorgeous specimens.
> See flowering induced (does not happen for all rosemary varieties). The flowers are tasty and attractive!

What we'll do:
> Keep your plants in ideal conditions for the challenging winter months, which promotes abundant flowering on lavender and longevity for the rosemary.
> Tidy and perform spring pruning on your lavender to increase number of flowering stems, and keep the plants growing vigorously - this is very important for the healthy and look of lavender plants.
> Top dress your plants with Sea Soil compost, to promote healthy growth come spring.
> Water & feed (organically) your plants during their holiday at Sage Garden Herbs.
> Tag your plants with your name, phone number, and any other special info to be sure your plants do not get mixed up.
> We guarantee your plants' well-being while in our care. Should your plant not survive, we will replace it (some restrictions apply; please see below. Replacement is of similar size and type, but may not be exactly the same).

The Details:
> We can accept healthy, disease free lavender and rosemary plants (sorry, we do not winter ANY other plant varieties).
> Minimum container size is 8". Maximum container size is 24". Plants must be in terra-cotta or plastic containers with drainage holes. Glazed and self watering containers are not ideal for lavender and rosemary, and plants received in these types of containers cannot be guaranteed.
> Where plants have been dug from the garden, please allow at least one week for plants to settle into their new containers before bringing them to us for wintering. Freshly transplanted material can experience transplant shock, and impact our ability to winter successfully.
> Pots with multiple varieties are not well suited for our wintering service, as we organize plants by variety during the wintering process (to best match specific variety to ideal conditions). We may require that plants be separated.
> We are NOT able to accept the following: Greyform, Fringed, Fernleaf, or Goodwin Creek Lavenders - these varieties thrive on warmer temperatures through winter and do not benefit from our service the way that cooler climate lavenders do. We recommend wintering these in a warm, sunny location in your home where they can do very well!
> The drop-off period for plants is between September 27 and October 28, 2012
. The pick-up period is April 15 to 30, 2013. We ask for your co-operation in picking up with in these dates, as space becomes tight during the spring production season. Plants not picked up between these dates will be forfeited. Please note: Due to the cold weather in April, 2013, lavender and rosemary plants wintered at Sage Garden will now be available for pick-up May 1 - May 15, 2013 (rather than April 15-30).

Pricing (SGH Member's receive 10% off prices). All prices subject to GST. All prices now include top dressing with Sea Soil compost and basic stem pruning.

> Pots 6" to 8" - $16.95
> Pots 10" to 16" - $24.95
> Pots 18" to 24" - $36.95

Please note: The following varieties prefer a warm (room temperature) wintering situation, and are not suited for our service. Winter these in a bright window in your home, pruning regularly to encourage bushiness, watering deeply 1 - 2 times per week, and feeding monthly with a compost based general purpose fertilizer. These lavenders often bloom all winter long in the home setting!
