Earthworm Castings

Worm Castings are one of the best slow release fertilizers around! Worm digestion breaks organic material down into highly available forms for plant up-take. In addition, worm compost absorbs water (up to 2.5 x weight) then slowly releases the water over time. This is perfect for planters and garden beds in our hot, sunny summer climate. Finally, beneficial microbes are added to the compost by the worms, stimulating the living-systems that makes organic soils so healthy. Recent research indicates that the micro-organisms in worm compost also reduce pest and disease occurrence. Worm compost can be mixed with peat based potting soil or used as a soil top dressing. For potting mixes, use approximately 1/3 worm compost to 2/3 peat and other materials. For top dressing, spread an even coat and water in.
