Taking a Fall Cutting
Fall is an ideal time to take cuttings on plants you want to bring indoors, but do not have the space for a huge specimen! Cuttings root nicely on a sunny windowsill, and winter indoors much more easily compared to a large plant. Some herb varieties that do very well using this method include: Lemon Verbena, Stevia, Rosemary, Mints, Sages, African Blue Basil, Aussie Sweetie Basil, Lavenders, Thymes, and any other soft wood, evergreen perennial. No rooting hormone is required.
Check out our photo guide to taking a fall cutting. (Thank you to Pamela for being our "hand model"!)
