Digging the Tropical Garden
Tropicals plants make a bold and unique statement in the prairie garden! Here is a
photo blog
explaining some important tips on how to successfully dig plants from the outdoor garden and transfer to containers to winter inside. These photos were taken in late September 2009; we would in fact recommend that gardeners in our climate get plants out of the garden earlier, particularly when transferring from garden-to-pots-to-indoors (as opposed to simply from patio-to-indoors). It would be ideal to do the digging before night temperatures drop below 10 degrees, and day time highs are in the high teens. Stress is reduced if the plants ca adjust to their pots for about a week before heading inside.
