Plant a Peck of Potatoes

This workshop ran on May 14, 2013. We look forward to the 2014 edition! If you are interested in growing potatoes in containers, we have all of the supplies available in store.

Description: Potatoes are among the ultimate urban garden crops! Choose from one of *eight varieties of seed potatoes available at SGH, and plant them up in an eco-friendly, reuseable Smart Pot. You will be amazed at the productivity possible in these small footprint containers! Course handouts include info on growing in beds and other types of containers, plus harvest and storage.

Materials Included: 500 g of certified seed potatoes (your choice, from *instock selections),15 gallon Smart Pot, organic veggie soil, handouts.

Instructor Bio: Mark is an expert seed starter, with years of experience sowing diverse plant material, and as the lead propagator at SGH for a number of years!

Mark's love of gardening first developed, complicatedly enough, while living in a basement apartment in downtown Winnipeg. Inspired and endlessly intrested in plants as medicines for body and mind, their holistic and shamanistic uses, and the effect that their presence in his home could have on the spirit, he dove headfirst into a world of fluorescents and high-intensity discharge bulbs.

Mark believes whole-heartedly in the enrichment on one's living environment through the presence of plants, and that every surface, nook, or cranny in the home can become a growing space. After three seasons working at Sage Garden Herbs, his passion for plants was able to grow further in the direction of edible and culinary plants, and he learned more and more each day about the importance and benefits of chemical-free horticultural practices.
